FOMO entries after a missed breakout
Missing a clean breakout is painful. Chasing the next candle usually costs more than sitting out.
Technical analysts train to recognise breakouts. They rarely train for the ten minutes after a breakout they did not take. That window is where impulsive entries appear, often at worse prices and without the original confirmation.
In the Psychology Clinic we run a timed exercise: participants watch a recorded breakout they are not allowed to trade, then must write the next valid setup instead of inventing a late entry. The writing step slows the urge to click.
A desk rule that helps: if you miss the first confirmation candle, you wait for a planned retest setup or you skip the instrument for the session. No third option exists.
Accepting a missed move is a skill. It protects the next clean reading from being contaminated by regret.
